A Kate Harris art nouveau silver casket

For sale is this very good Kate Harris silver box or casket.  The casket sits on four ball feet with a classic puritan maid design to the lid.  The casket closes tightly with a hinged clasp. The lid also studded with copper rivet highlights. The box is fully hallmarked for Goldsmiths and Silversmiths and would have been made by William Hutton & Sons, London 1901.

There are several variants of these boxes or caskets by Kate Harris and this is one of the larger ones you can find.

In excellent condition. The box can been lined and would make a very nice jewellery or  trinket box.  It currently has no lining.

Kate Harris was employed by the London studio of William Hutton & Sons to produce artistic silver from 1899 to c 1905.  Harris was one of the very few women, or British exhibitors, to win recognition at the 1900 Paris International Exhibition, her work exhibited there by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths (as retailer for Huttons).
