For sale is this striking silver bowl by the Czech silver maker Franz Bibus. The bowl is beautifully made with meticulous hand hammering to create twelve panels to the bowl that flow down to the bowl’s foot. The bowl dates to c 1930 and is clearly inspired by Josef Hoffmann’s work for the Wiener Werkstatte. The bowl is in excellent condition and of a scale that could be used for fruit, flowers or wine.
Franz (Frantisek) Bibus or Franz Bibus & Sons were the leading Czech inter-war silver manufacturer, with a history dating back to the 19th century. The Czech marks on this bowl dates it to c 1930, 800 silver standard. See “Modern Art of Metalwork” Brohan Museum for more information on Bibus, whose work is included in the Museum’s illustrious collection.
