A tall elegant Gilbert Leigh Marks silver vase

A really elegant Gilbert Marks vase. The vase is hallmarked for Gilbert Marks and carries his engraved signature, dated 1901. The design and shape of the bowl is of organic art nouveau influence. As with all Marks’ work the repousse flowers are extremely fine.  An unusual feature of this piece are the four caricatures designed into the base. On close inspection these are not your normal classical images but are of a moustached man. These may be the only known images of Gilbert Marks.
