An arts and crafts silver and enamel tankard

Price range: £3,350

For sale is this beautiful silver, enamel and glass tankard.

Clearly inspired by medieval silver, or perhaps William Burges later take on the gothic style, this arts and crafts tankard is fully assayed for London 1901.  Each element is appropriately part marked. The  jug is set with enamel roundels to the lid and base.
The makers mark on the jug is rubbed but fortunately one other complete identical tankard is known with same date and makers mark for Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst Ltd (Walter Walker & Brownfield Tolhurst). It is safe to assume they also made, or retailed, this piece.
Johnson Walker Tolhurst were a leading retailer, and maker, of jewellery and silver around c 1900, most noted for their links to Gilbert Marks.  The designer of this jug is unknown.
Condition is excellent and original.
